Exam Questions
1. Since the semester began, I believe I've progressed significantly as an artist. Because I'd never done anything like it before, most of the tasks we did were a little challenging for me, but it was a lot of fun trying something new. I believe the projects were quite accurate in terms of what I am capable of. Again, the majority of what we accomplished was new to me, but I am eager to improve on each project we completed. It was difficult for me to decide what I wanted to do for our first project, Picture (1), because I didn't know what I wanted to do but also did want to go with the flow. Picture 1 turned out far better than I had anticipated. I'm very pleased with what I've accomplished. I wish I had added more texture since I believe it would have improved the overall aesthetic, but I appreciate how everything blends together in certain ways. Picture (2) was the most time-consuming project we did, but it was also my favorite. I believe I've made significant progress since a year ago, I couldn't make something look remotely natural. I attempted to make this piece as smooth as possible because I didn't want too much texture, and it worked out wonderful. I've come a long way with my work, and I'm excited to explore what else I can achieve in addition to painting.

Question 3. Scratch Art, I believe, was not as effective as I had hoped. There is a lot of blank space in the piece, and I wasn't sure what I could do with it without making it look too busy or unappealing. It was difficult to utilize the scratch tools while doing too much because everything had to be flawless or the piece would be ruined. I won't identify names because it was also my fault for letting them touch my piece for to long, but on several occasions, this person scratched too hard on my piece, making it difficult to work on. If I had to remake this piece, I would first not allow anyone touch it, even if they were attempting to assist me, and second, I would double-check my lines and add more texture to the backdrop, which could use it.

Question 7. The oil painting would be the one I would redo if I had to choose. Because I was busy and still working on my portrait painting at the time, I only spent three days on that assignment. I'm not sure what I was attempting to achieve with this painting. I wanted something cute for my room, so I decided on a flower with a face, which I managed to make look like Ariana Grande, so that's a bonus. What I would change is the theme; the flower does not appeal to me, and I believe I could have chosen something more my style. I'd also use a larger canvas because adding a face to the the small canvas I had was quite difficult for me. I couldn't do anything with the arms, and the colors I chose aren't my favorite.

Question 11. Portrait painting is the project that I have had the most success with. I've previously used oil. I've learnt from my mistakes since doing oil for the first time, and I've used what I've learned from my teachers as well as my own errors to figure out what not to do. I hated waiting when I first started oil painting and would still add more paint, but this would ruin my piece. I'd also use a lot more paint than the first piece required. I had no idea how to smooth down the oil paint, thus the painting had a lot of rough lines. Knowing what I know for my portrait piece, I was able to put it to good use, and everything worked out well. Because it was a portrait, there wasn't a definite theme, but I liked the colors in my reference photo, which is why I went with that approach.
